Aquaculture Market and Development Strategy: The Case of Pangasius in the Mekong Delta, Vietnam

Abstract:Vietnam Mekong Delta plays very important roles in fishery production with its total of 60 % by the country’s prodution and its sharing of the 80% of the National fishery export, with its arround USD 2.5 billions, anually. The Pangasius (ca tra) is the main product of the fisherry production in the region. However, this fishery production has also faced with some problems of its enviromental changes, its trade dispute, and its production and mar- keting. Therefore, the aims of the study as follows:(i) To analyze the pangasius develop- ment by the changing environment; (ii) To identify influence of trade dispute on the pan- gasius farming characteristics; (iii) To provide development strategies for this production effectively. This study’s methodologies by the secondary data and primary data’s collec- tion of diiferent stakeholders of the pangasius’s supply chain analysis in the Vietnam Mekong Delta. In order to improve the catfish production in the Vietnam Mekong Delta, the catfish production zoning and its best quality control, its supply chain development, banlance of its supply-demand, and improvement of farmers’ technolgies and their organizations are strongly recomended.
